A quiet roadway in Augusta County has turned into a place of sorrow as the community mourns the loss of Larry W. Melton, 67, of Millboro, who died in a tragic single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched around 4:10 p.m. on April 28 to Little Calf Pasture Highway, roughly 2.3 miles south of Old Parkersburg Turnpike, following reports of a crash. When emergency responders arrived, they found Melton had sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Melton was driving a Chevy 3500 when, for reasons still under review, the vehicle crossed over a double solid centerline, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree with significant force. The impact proved fatal.
Authorities also confirmed that Melton was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
