Bolton School Lockdown Lifted After Police Firearm Alert
Police in Bolton responded to reports of a potential firearm sighting on Chorley New Road at around 7:40am on April 29, prompting precautionary lockdowns at two nearby primary schools.
Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the area following concerns raised by members of the public. Armed units attended and carried out a full search and investigation of the scene.
As a precaution, St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School and Devonshire Road Primary School were placed into lockdown while officers assessed the situation and ensured there was no immediate danger to pupils or staff.
Following extensive enquiries, police confirmed that no viable threat was identified and that there was no wider risk to the public. The lockdowns were subsequently lifted, and normal school activity resumed.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated that officers acted swiftly in response to the report and completed all necessary checks before concluding the incident safely.
Authorities have confirmed that the matter has been fully assessed and no further action is required in relation to public safety.
Police continue to emphasise that precautionary lockdowns in schools are standard procedure during unverified high-risk reports, ensuring the safety of pupils and staff while investigations are carried out.
