Blake High School Parking Lot Shooting: 19-Year-Old Arrested After Fight in Montgomery County

Silver Spring, Maryland — A 19-year-old was arrested Wednesday morning after a fight in the parking lot of Blake High School escalated into a shooting that left a juvenile injured, according to Montgomery County police.

Authorities said a Community Engagement Officer (CEO) already on campus was alerted to a fight around 11:29 a.m. The officer, along with school security staff, responded to the parking lot where the altercation was taking place.

During the response, officials discovered a handgun on the ground, which police say had fallen during the fight. The 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators later determined that a juvenile male involved in the altercation had sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been publicly released.

Police initially responded to reports of a possible armed student, but later clarified that the individual connected to the firearm is not a student at Blake High School.

The school was placed on a “hold” status while law enforcement secured the campus and conducted a thorough search. Officials confirmed that the scene was eventually secured and no ongoing threat remained.

By early afternoon, Montgomery County Public Schools announced that police had completed their search of the building and that a modified dismissal procedure would be implemented at the regular dismissal time.

Investigators remain at the scene and are continuing to determine what led to the confrontation and how the firearm became involved in the altercation. Authorities have not yet released additional details about potential charges.

The incident adds to a series of recent firearm-related incidents in Montgomery County schools, including prior cases at Watkins Mill High School and a shooting at Wootton High School earlier this year.
