Payson Groff Kankakee, IL Death: Tragic Loss, Gone Too Soon
The community is mourning the profound loss of Payson Groff, 15, a student at Herscher High School, whose passing has left family, classmates, and friends grieving an unimaginable loss.
Born on March 8, 2011, in Kankakee, Illinois, Payson was known for her remarkable sense of purpose, curiosity, and determination far beyond her years. She carried a bold dream of attending Northwestern University and pursuing a future in law, aspirations that reflected her intelligence, ambition, and desire to positively impact the world around her.
Payson embraced life with creativity and energy. She was a devoted older sister who cherished her role within her family and took pride in supporting those she loved. Her interests reflected a vibrant personality, including art, drawing, softball, and track, as well as time spent enjoying video games and sharing laughter with friends.
Her creative side was especially evident in her TikTok cooking series, “Cooking with Good Looking,” created alongside her best friend Natalie. Through this project and many everyday moments, she expressed humor, imagination, and a natural ability to connect with others.
She also found joy in travel and the outdoors, particularly in visits to Panama City Beach, where she experienced moments of happiness and peace. Deeply grounded in her faith, Payson was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was remembered as someone whose beliefs shaped her kindness and outlook on life.
She is survived by her parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and many close friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Judy Arnold.
As arrangements are made for visitation and services at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home and Faith Baptist Church, the community gathers in shared remembrance. Though her life was tragically short, Payson Groff is remembered for her light, her dreams, and the lasting impact she leaves behind in all who knew her.
